Vertical presentations in deeper water have become very popular at Pyramid Lake early and late in the season. When the water is warmer and the fish are a little deeper these flies will help to get you down to the fish. We fish them much like a jig with a conventional rod. Right no the bottom. These flies are a must for float tube, pontoon boats or anything that puts you in deeper water early and late in the season.

The Tuna Can gets its name from the shape of its head. (and from some old stories from the lake) We hammered fish on this fly last year in its experimental stages and we fine tuned it for our online store. The Flat shaped head and angle make the fly ride differently and jig with much more action and the fish can not stay away. There are three colors and they all work!

Wooly Bugger – Rootbeer

The Rootbeer Wooly Bugger has been really effective for years. It is a great minnow imitation just like the White Ghost. The fly has really good contrast with a dark tail and fiery brown hackle. Definitely a go to fly for shooting head rigs at the lake any time of year. Size 4

The White Wooly Worm is tied with white hackle and UV Chartreuse Estaz chenille. This fly is one of the best dropper flies in a two fly rig for shooting heads. A great attractor pattern that catches a lot of fish and is easy to see coming up at the end of a retrieve. Size 6

The Midnight Cowboy Wooly Bugger is the most popular Wooly Bugger since it’s inception back in the early 2000’s. What a great fly for the front or back of your two fly rig. The blue and red fibers in the chenille really make this fly look alive in the water. definitely a go to fly for shooting head rigs at the lake any time of year. Size 4

The fly got it’s name from the particular chenille it is tied with named Midnight Fire.

Maholo Nymph – Black

The #1 selling fly for Nymphing at Pyramid Lake. This fly was the original Nymph style fly used at Pyramid lake back in the early 2000’s by Rob Anderson, Chris Evison and Andy Burk. It continues to produce year after year. Tied in size 12 on a Tiemco 3761 hook. It can either be used as a top or bottom fly on an indicator rig or as either fly in a stripping tandem with a floating line or a hover line. The Maholo nymph series is also a great addition to any fly box for fishing just about anywhere trout may roam. These flies are also great Steelhead flies on the Trinity river. don’t just settle for a Copper John or a Pheasant Tail. This fly will make you a better fisherman.

The Martini Olive Wooly Worm is one of the two most popular flies for shooting head set-ups. Designed originally by Sash Nakamoto of Reno and duplicated for years. This fly is a must for any fly box for Pyramid Lake. Fish this fly as a dropper or a point fly on a Pyramid Lake leader and a fast sinking shooting head set-up.

You can not find this fly anywhere else but on our store. This fly imitates two of the main food sources at Pyramid lake, Dragon Fly Nymphs and Tui Chub Minnows.
