Eastern Nevada Spring Float Tube Outing
Do you have any interest in catching big football sized Rainbows that jump recklessly into the sky and strip drag from a reel like a freight train?
If the anwer is yes you have come to the right place. Actually, you have to come with us this May to be in the right place.
Every year when the weather starts to get nice, and the flowers start to bloom and the bugs start to hatch we make a run out to the Elko area in Nevada to chase huge trout. Eastern Nevada has some of the most prolific stillwaters anywhere in the west and they are relatively unknown. Beautiful landscape, snowcapped mountains and gorgeous sunsets engulf the area and make for an amazing place to fill your net with fish.
There are so many places to fish out here that it is difficult for the weekend angler to pick a spot and have confidence in it. All the lakes and reservoirs have fish in them. Some of them more than others and some of them are easier to fish and be successful than others. Some fish better early and some later in the year. Just like picking out the right fly, picking the right body of water is also important. Our guides spend time every year scouting and preparing for our guests to join us for some of the most amazing Stillwater trout fishing anywhere.
The Outing is a 2 ½ day event. We follow the outline of our very popular Pyramid Lake float tube outings. Our guests show up the first afternoon to the campground at the lake. We get settled in, rig up rods, blow up boats, make a plan for the next two days and prepare for some non-stop action. We have an early dinner and usually have time for some shore fishing before dark. The next day we meet in the morning and pretty much fish all day with a break for lunch somewhere in the middle of the day. A gourmet dinner is the perfect end to the day. The 2nd day is a carbon copy of the first day with a full day of fishing, lunch on the water and dinner at the camp to end the event.
Fishing is insane. A lot of different techniques can be used including stripping small Stillwater flies with an intermediate line or hanging midges and balanced leeches under an indicator. There are plenty of access points around the lake(s) and we are normally fishing in 6-12 feet of water. A 5-6 weight rod is perfect.
There are several options for places to stay. Most of us will camp together or near each other at the lake. There are full hookups at the campground and a dump station. There are a couple small motels on and off the reservation as well for the non camper.
We have Outcast Frameless Pontoon boats for rent if anyone needs something to fish from.
We have two Utility trailer campers for rent as well. These are the same campers we use for our clients at Pyramid Lake. Complete with two beds, lights and heat.
Cost of the outing is $395 per person. Including flies, leaders, guides, food and knowledge of the area through scouting and experience to put everyone on lots of fish.
Dates: May 17-19 and-or 21-23
