Fishing Report

The lake has spit out some of the biggest fish we have seen since the restocking of the Pilot Peak Strain was re-introduced in 2006. Lots of fish in the 20 pound class have found a net the last couple months. We are not sure why the fishing is so much better now than the last couple years at the same time but we don’t care right now because we are catching fish.

All the normal techniques are working. Indicator fishing with size 10-14 Midges and Nymphs has been great especially with a Balanced Leech as the top fly. Depth is key and knowing the depth of the beach your fishing and how far out to cast is important. Stripping all kinds of Woolybuggers and Beetle Patterns has been slamming big fish. This time of year with the weather creating cold nights night after night and the water temperatures at their wintertime lows, the best fishing is usually the last couple hours before dark when the water is a little warmer and the sun is low. It has been like this for years. The days are short right now and fishing until last light is the way to go.

It is going to be interesting to see if this good fishing continues all season or if it drops off again like the last couple years in March and April. We are crossing our fingers. Get out there and fish. If this report did not get you off the couch then nothing will. Hahahaha. Happy New Year everyone. Thanks for supporting us over the years.
