Three weeks in the books for March already, wow time is going fast but there is so much time left to fish before the lake closes at the end of June.
The last week at Pyramid Lake was extremely slow for this time of year. The weather was all over the map and it did not matter what it was, the fish just did not cooperate anywhere. The water was in the mid 40’s a week ago and today it is in the lower 50’s. It changed really fast. We have another weak system moving through this weekend and let’s hope with the warmer weather things will get better.
There is not a lot to say about what is working or what is not. Nothing is working. Try something new, a new location, a new fly, technique. Good fishing is coming, the lake was fishing really good before last week, the fish are there for sure, as the water warms more will come.
Some general tips for fishing in the spring. When you have calm sunny days, fish first light and last light for best success. Downsize your tippet to 3x with midges in size 14-16. On cloudy windy days you can go a little heavier on tippet and a size larger on flies. On really choppy days use a balanced fly on top. First and last light are also the best time to fish a shooting head.
We just released a new video about fishing in the late season. June is an amazing month at the lake, and you should watch our video. Subscribe to our channel to stay up to date with all our YouTube content.
